David Attenborough Turns 93

Sir David Attenborough turned 93 this month, but he’s more relevant than ever. With his Blue Planet II and Climate Change – The Facts programmes and his People’s Seat address to the United Nations, he has really made people across Britain and beyond sit up and pay attention.

This increased awareness of the negative impact we’re having on our environment is starting to change consumer behaviour. In a recent GlobalWebIndex survey, 53% of British and US consumers reported that they have reduced their use of disposable plastic over the past year. 42% said products that use recycled and sustainable materials were important considerations for them when they’re shopping.

The study found that news stories and documentaries about plastic waste and sustainability were among the most influential sources impacting consumers’ views on these issues.

The survey report also revealed that, globally, the proportion of people willing to spend more for sustainable products is increasing, going from 49% in 2011 to 57% in 2018.
